Fitness, Confidence, Self-Defense!
About our dojo
Northern Virginia Isshinryu Karate Club is a comprehensive fitness and self-defense
program. Its purpose is to provide qualified instruction in Karate, self-defense
and the principles of traditional martial arts through training in Okinawan Isshinryu Karate. Classes
are held through the Burke Centre Conservancy at the Woods Community Center
on Friday evenings.
Training
in this class includes: cardiovascular conditioning and flexibility exercises, self-defense skills, traditional forms known
as Kata, and limited, controlled point sparring. (Safety equipment is required during sparring, and the safety of the
student is always given the highest priority.) No experience is necessary, and
beginning students are taught separately from advanced students. Character development, respect and self-control are promoted
during training to help students cope with daily stress and life pressures.
